Human Body Systems


This Wednesday Sept 30th you will be having your first exam. The exam will consist of 45 multiple choice questions. Please come to class prepared with a study sheet no larger than an 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of paper.

Homework:
You will need to turn in your Human Body Systems homework on 9/30/09. All grades are closed as of Friday October 2nd at 12 noon. Do not even attempt to submit back work after 12 noon.

Start of School Year!

Welcome back students and I hope everyone had a restful summer and you are ready to begin work!
There are several things that you must attend to over the next week -
1) Period Three, you must turn in your locker, lunch and emergency cards!
2) What Biology Means To Me - One page, four paragraph essay due Friday 8/29
3) Science Safety Test - This Monday 8/31. All students need to take and pass this test with 100%. You will continue to take this test until you achieve 100% or there will be no lab:( - This is for your safety and the safety of others.
4) Chapter one SQ3R notes are due next Wednesday 9/2.

Tuesady back in school

We are nearing the end of the school year. This includes turning in your text books, taking a final exam and completing the survey for this class.


We will head over to the computer lab this week to take a class evaluation survey from this link.

I will pass out Questions for your final exam this week. Our last lab is this week as well. Be prepared to submit a formal lab report based on our last lab.

May 18th

Monday the 18th we will be dissecting brains with scientists from UCSF - please plan on arriving to class on time, with questions and your enthusiastic self. This week we will be discussing your clone papers and having a classroom debate on clones, stem cells and genetic engineering.

This will prep us well for our final end of the year lab - pGLO. We will insert a glowing gene from jellyfish into a normal bacteria (assuming that there is anything normal about bacteria)

STAR Testing:

In Two weeks we will begin STAR testing. Next week we will review material from the beginning of the year to get you ready for the exam.

We have just finished the last of the 6 weeks for our six week grading period and grades are now closed.

For homework you will be required to begin review starting with Unit Three.

Monday April 13th

School - is Back! Yes Monday will be a normal day. This week we will touch on the 11 Human Body Systems with particular focus on the immune system. You will be familiar with how these systems interact with each other, understand how our body is designed to protect us from disease and just how these systems are able to maintain homeostasis in our bodies.

Chapter 36 pages 926-936
Chapter 40 pages 1030-1047


Grades are due this Friday - 4/17 so please turn in any an all evolution project materials.
STAR testing is in two weeks we will begin our preparation for these tests next week - REVIEW!

Monday March 23rd

There will be an exam on the three chapters in your text book that focus on Evolution. The exam will consist of a few multiple choice questions and a few fill in the blank questions. Please come on time to class prepared for the test.

For those of you who did not present their evolution project (lack of time on Friday or you wern't prepared) please be ready to present Monday.

Feb 19th

This week we are finishing up chapter 12 and will start on chapter 13 next monday and tuesday. Our Test on the Genetics Unit will be next Friday Feb 27th.
It will be a 50 question multiple choice test covering chapters 11, 12, and 13. There will be a study guide provided however please make your own in case i forget something!

Feb. 9th

Today we start chapter 12 - DNA. This week we will be constructing DNA origami and learning about James Watson and Francis Crick - the two men who figured out the structure of DNA.

Chapter 11

Chapter 11
Please make sure that i have all of your SQ3R notes for chapter 11 - genetics. This was due last week Your homework will be different this week. I would like you to make a diagram to explain Mendel's principle of dominance and segregation. Your diagram should show how alleles segregate during gamete formation.

We will finish the mitosis/meiosis lab this week and the lab write up is due this Friday
